The Colorado Seed Laboratory
Over 95 Years of Seed Testing
est. 1912
The Colorado Seed Laboratory has a long tradition of providing reliable and consistent seed test results for commercial, certification, and research applications. We continue that tradition while researching new seed testing methods in purity analysis, seed germination, and viability tests. We encourage our customers to provide any suggestions so we can better serve your needs.
How can the Colorado Seed Lab serve you?
The Colorado Seed Laboratory began testing seed in 1912 and quickly gained notoriety for quality seed testing. Located in Fort Collins, Colorado, on the campus of Colorado State University, the seed lab has been on the forefront of seed testing for over 95 years. Many purity analysis, germination, and tetrazolium testing procedures were researched and developed in Colorado. The Colorado Seed Lab provides seed tests for both labeling and regulatory purposes. We continue to maintain our dedication to the seed industry by adhering to the highest standards so that our customers receive the highest quality test results.
Vegetable and Flower Seed Testing
The Colorado Seed Laboratory offers special pricing for vegetable and flower seed (retail and wholesale). Germination testing for these species is a main part of our business, and we test for several companies across the United States. Many companies find our internet and email services very useful. For example, dealing with paper copies of lab reports for hundreds of samples can be tedious--our services allow you to download results into a spreadsheet, and we email .PDF reports as the samples are completed. Of course we still send the signed paper copies, but by then all you'll need to do is file them!
Native Seed Testing is our Specialty
Native seed testing continues to be our specialty. Purity, germination, and tetrazolium tests on native range and revegetation species remains the lab's primary focus. Our analysts have years of experience testing these species, and will analyze your seed samples so that you get the best, most accurate results possible. We also work with more traditional crops, including small grains, beans, small legumes, corn, vegetables, flowers, shrubs, and many more!
The Colorado Seed Lab is Located at Colorado State University
The lab is housed on a major university campus, so we have access to state-of-the-art research facilities, knowledgeable faculty, and the latest technology. A plant diagnostic lab, soil and water lab, and extension services make it possible for companies and growers to make CSU their 'single stop' for agricultural resources. Take advantage of all that the seed lab and Colorado State have to offer you in the realm of agriculture.

A Major Mover With Seed and Crop Issues
As seed production and the seed trade becomes internationalized, industry and governments have made issues surrounding seed quality a top priority. Insuring a quality product, stopping the spread of noxious weeds, and accurate labeling are top concerns. Growers and companies must adhere to the highest standards if they want to represent their product well in a highly competitive market. At the Colorado Seed Lab we can help you meet these standards, and together we will insure that every generation of seed is clean, viable, and accurately labeled.
